Buggy Mennonite Hand Quilted Antique Patchwork Red Black Amish Quilt. The central portion of this Antique Patchwork Red Black Quilt, the patchwork portion, is old and completely hand stitched together. Our Old Order Mennonite quilter found this antique quilt top in her grandmothers collection, and Arlene then sewed new border fabrics to surround the Patchwork, and completed the hand quilting. So, the center patchwork is old and sewn by hand, and the bordering fabrics have been sewn on and handquilted recently. This Antique Patchwork Red Black Amish Quilt measures approximately 90 x 90 inches. Arlene R, our Old Order Mennonite quilter has stitched approximately 7 handquilted stitches per inch. Arlene lives just around the corner from us here in south central PA. Please note there are some stains on a few of the fabric squares, which is a natural finding for antique fabrics.
The Old Order Mennonite of south central Pennsylvania warmly embrace the sense of community that they live in, and actively pass their beliefs and heritage down from generation to generation. Even the great grandparents can be seen holding small children and rock them to sleep on the porch swings of their dawdy houses, and they are still active on the family farm up into their 90s.
